Sardinia or Sardegna is Italy's second largest island, as diverse and beautiful as its southern brother Sicily. Medieval Cagliari, Sardinia's capital, is a cosmopolitan place with picturesque lanes, Italian architecture, Pisan towers and a great city wall. Other interesting places to visit are the Barbagia Mountains which provide a glimpse at the real Sardinian way of life, the Costa Verde with its stunning stretch of green coastline, the medieval towns of Oristano, Tharros and Bosa where you can visit castles, cathedrals and ancient Roman structures. Santa Teresa Gallura is a picturesque village on the northern shoreline of Sardinia.

Some of the highlights on Sardinia are its many Bronze Age artefacts. Nuraghe Su Nuraxi is one of the most popular excavations showing conical shaped stone dwellings apparently from a tribe not existing outside Sardinia. Another historic site is Nora, a small Carthaginian city with typical Roman baths, street paths and remains of a theatre.

The northern coast between Olbia and Santa Teresa Gallura is known as the Costa Smeralda or Emerald Coast and is quickly becoming a place for tourists; private villas, condos popping up everywhere. It is also the place of two of Italy's Marine Parks; La Maddalena and Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo, known throughout Italy as some of its most stunning underwater habitats. Protected by law, absence of over fishing and strict pollution control have all been improving the diversity and richness of its fish and coral life; large beds of sea fans, sea breams, tuna and wrasses. The pretty island of Figarola can easily be reached from Golfo Aranci and north of Capo Figari is known for its sightings of dolphins. Sardinia is a great place to be, not too crowded, rich in as well cultural, architectural and natural sights and activities. Sardinia is a great destination to spend your holiday.
