The Maddalena Archipelago is one of the prime spots for nature enthusiasts and scuba divers. This National Marine Park has been protected since decades creating one of the richest underwater worlds in all of Italy, situated between Sardinia and Corsica into the Straits of Bonifacio. There is only one urban village called La Maddalena town with approximately 10.000 inhabitants, easily reached by ferry from mainland Palau. Especially Piazza Umberto I (Piazza Rossa) and Via Garibaldi boast with life, restaurants and evening entertainment. Relaxing, experiencing its laidback afternoon life, strolling around the popular beaches Cala Francese and Bassa Trinita are your main activities. Other islands belonging to the Maddalena Archipelago are Caprera, Santo Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria.
La Maddalena is a windy place filled with granite rocks. Its strategic position has made it a naval port for centuries. Interesting things to do are visiting its ancient ruins and former forts. Diving is very popular all around the Maddalena Islands and since pollution, fishing and other illegal activities are banned, these waters are truly phenomenal. The diversity is immense; there are huge pinnacles, secluded coves and famous wrecks such as the Angelika.
