Naxos, considered being Sicilians first Greek colony and once a flourishing city, is now a picturesque fishing village located between Cape Schisò and Cape Taormina. Often named Giardini-Naxos, meaning gardens of original point of the first Greek settlers, it is less travelled than neighbouring Taormina. This villages used to live of citrus fruits farming, fishing and wood carving, but nowadays tourism has become the hottest attraction.
Some simple excavation sites can be visited with many of the main artefacts stored inside the Archaeological Museum inside an old fort. Between Naxos and Taormina you will find a secluded bay, full of beautiful sandy beaches, hotels of all kinds, romantic seaside dinners, bars, pubs and other evening entertainment. Also the beautiful ocean-side boulevard (Lungomare) is a great place to relax and enjoy its typical Italian lifestyle. There are dive sites all along the coast of Naxos, but the wreck of the Golfo di Patti is without doubt one of the most spectacular. Located in the harbour, this tourist ferry of almost 50 meter long is encrusted in corals and surrounded in fish.
